When we arrived here, there was actually nothing.
No comfort, no finished rooms, no certainty about what the future would bring. Just a dream, a lot of courage, and a huge mountain of work waiting for us.
For two and a half years, we worked seven days a week, day and night. No breaks, no luxuries. Only after that period were we able to rent out our first room.
Everything was still very simple back then. We ate at a small fry-up table. But our guests didn't mind that at all. On the contrary: they found it cozy, pure, and sincere. That gave us the strength to continue.
Ten years of building a dream
That first renovation was just the beginning.
For ten years, the same rhythm repeated itself.
Every year, as soon as the season was over, we started renovating again.
Always with the same goal: to create a warm and authentic place where our guests feel at home.
Today, we are proud to say that Domaine des Campeaux is almost complete. The estate has grown, taken shape, and found its balance.
Nevertheless, we continue to improve and innovate every year. Because for us, one thing remains central: our guests.
Building the swimming pool on a mountain
One of our greatest achievements is undoubtedly the large swimming pool.
But building a swimming pool in the middle of nature was anything but easy. Obtaining the permits literally cost us blood, sweat, and tears.
The fact that we ultimately succeeded is largely thanks to the local population, who stood behind us and continued to support us.
Growing up between two worlds
In addition to work, there were also personal challenges.
Our daughter Silke was only three years old when she started school here. The school was very different from what we were used to in Belgium.
She didn't speak a word of French. She missed her grandparents, her familiar surroundings, and her mother tongue.
Those were perhaps the most difficult moments of all.
Through trial and error
But step by step, we kept going.
Through trial and error.
With doubt, but also with conviction.
Today, we look back on an intense journey, built with perseverance, love, and respect for this place, for the people around us, and for everyone who comes to stay here.
